Project:
MET Continuous High Solid Anaerobic Digestion Plant
Client:
Melton Energy Tech Ltd & Thöni GmbH
Location:
East Yorkshire
Project Value:
Project Duration:
Early Contractor Interaction: February 2023
Practical works commencement: December 2024 to July 2025 (Seven Months)
Completion: August 2025
Scope:
The MET plug Flow Digester is the UK’s first dry anaerobic digestion facility supplying biomethane directly
to the national grid. Carbon Synergy was appointed by Thöni GmbH to provide full power and control
services for the process plant.
This included the delivery of stainless-steel product pipework, hydraulic and pneumatic delivery and control
systems, and process heating and insulation services.
Following further discussions with Melton Energy Tech and Thöni GmbH the scope expanded to cover site-
wide electrical system such as fire alarm systems, access control, lighting, and power for control rooms and
offices.
Full mechanical HVAC systems were also installed for these spaces. Carbon Synergy was additionally
tasked with delivering final power connections from the LV transformer, incorporating automatic
emergency switching.
Challenges:
- Coordinating cross-discipline installations within tight plant commissioning timelines.
- Managing scope creep from a process-only package to include site-wide electrical and mechanical
infrastructure.
- Delivering in a live environment where phased commissioning was essential.
Key Takeaways:
- Flexibility and depth of in-house capabilities allowed for seamless project scope expansion.
- Strong communication and coordination with both the client and equipment supplier ensured alignment
from concept to commissioning.
- Solidified Carbon Synergy’s position as a partner capable of delivering high-integrity solutions in complex,
first-of-its-kind facilities.
